What is QQ number? Why Every Chinese people has a QQ number?
I had been asked this question for a few times, so here I will answer this question in the post.
What is QQ?
QQ is an online chatting, communication software which was created and provided by Shen zhen Tencent technology INC. ( which is one of the top 3 internet groups in China, the other 2 is Baidu.com and Alibaba.com)
Basically if you ever used Messenger or skype, it is pretty much the same software as them. You will need to download the installation procedure to your computer, or table PC or smart phone. Then you will need to register a QQ number to log into the serve.
Below link is for English users to download QQ installation:
When you finished the installation and start QQ, you will have the option to register a number. The QQ number is the only identity recognition in the system. If you want to communicate with other people, you will have to know their QQ number first, then you can add it to your friend list and chat with them, view their profile, share documents and information. Also like facebook and twitter, QQ supplies the service of social media, you can write post, update your status, upload and storage your pictures, videos, playing QQ games, and many many other functions.
Why QQ is so popular in China? Why every Chinese People has a QQ number?
First I must say this conclusion is not right. If the Chinese has never used internet or is not able to use internet or computer, then there’s a chance he/she does not have a QQ. Otherwise everyone has a QQ number.
The reason is complex. But I will make it short:
1. QQ is the earliest online chatting & communication software in China since 1998 and they grasped the first user group. At beginning it was a replica product from OICQ, and it was called QICQ, but later there’s legal issue, and it was changed to tencent. And finally Tencent company bought the domain QQ.com and the official name was changed to QQ. Unlike MSN and skype, QQ is developed very well and it becomes the most successful software and online service in China. And Tencent Inc becomes the top 1 internet company in China. They run QQ software, QQ game, QQ.com, QQ shopping market, QQ-pay, QQ blog, QQ “twitter”, QQ mobile …., the QQ now covers every internet and mobile services in China.
In this case, Chinese people are almost impossible to leave QQ. For example, when you are in USA, you have many choice for internet service. You can use facebook, twitter, Google+, space, skype, MSN, Pinterest…., but in China, QQ supplies the services all, you only need to get a QQ number, and you can use everything.
2. QQ’s products are easy and convenient for users to use. From the basic function of chatting at first, to all the multi functions later, users are pretty much satisfied with the service. The company made mistakes, but they correct them very soon. People have very few chance to complaint about. The most complaint are about advertisement abuse, but which product has no advertisement?
Although QQ can not compete with Baidu.com on search engine or online shopping with Alibaba, but still they have got huge numbers of users and they can easily grasp enough old users for their new projects.
3. The Chinese Law. As we know, basically there are no antitrust law in China. So there has no considerable competitor in the industry. When a new company appears, Tencent will always buy it or beat it down. So other companies have no chance to complete with them. The result is users have no other options to choose. They have to use QQ.
Based on these reasons, now QQ is the most famous brand in China.
I got my fist QQ number when I was in high school. And at that time, computer is still not very common in Chinese family. Now every family at least has one computer and children in primary schools have their QQ number already. So I just figure out there’s no chance for Chinese people to uninstall QQ at all.
